Correctly following submission guidelines is one of the most crucial, yet one of the most ignored aspects of music promotion.
As the publisher of the Indie Bible and the Indie Venue Bible, the most frequent question I get from artists is, "How do I contact the music services listed in your directories?"
The answer is always the same: Whether you're contacting magazines, music blogs, radio shows, record labels, music distributors, promotional services or venues, you have to check THEIR SPECIFIC submission guidelines before getting in touch. If you do not follow their specific guidelines, your request will be ignored ... and your music trashed.
I hope this article succeeds in showing you that it is definitely worth it to take the extra time to read the submission guidelines before making contact. It takes longer, but in the long run, you will get a lot further and will gain a lot more respect.
